Comments from Sherwood (1900):

Elsewhere in Sherwood it is explained that it had been determined that the head crews in Oxford and Cambridge would represent the Universities in that year's Boat Race. Since Christ Church would not have been able to race on the agreed date, they 'took off' on the last day to allow Queen's to go head. Queen's subsequently beat Lady Margaret.
