Notes

"Summer Torpids" Tue 8 – Fri 11 June 2021
Towards the end of the Covid restrictions, after such a long break (Eights 2019) there were safety concerns about racing inexperienced crews and coxes. It was decided that the first event would be Torpids rather than Eights on the basis that, under Torpids rules, the possibility of dropping large numbers of places would deter coxes from acting unsafely. Divisions were also reduced to 9 boats but, being held in summer, the additional daylight allowed extra divisions so the number of crews was approximately the same.
The following Boat Clubs did not enter, so were penalised the usual six places: Wadham Women (W1 were Head of the River) and Men (M1 3rd on the river), G.T.C. Women (W1 7th) Jesus Men (M1 12th), Exeter Men (M1 17th)
To discourage spectators, the event was run from Tue-Fri rather than Wed-Sat and racing, with commentary, was broadcast live via YouTube.
