Satellite in position 2000s ahead of ERS.
Less hydrazine used to get into position than anticipated and solar array is producing more output than expected so mission life may be extended.

L1B Data (AD/CP) [Prev] [Next]

From SAG meeting:

More spikes found than expected in L1B data
Manuel Lopez-Puertas reported L1B NESR values showed correlation with atmospheric spectra (suggests a problem with the NESR derivation)
Alastair Burgess showed plots indicating consistent trend in AILS with wavelength, however it appears that these were using the incorrect parameters. Corrected parameters produce the same as the Oxford observation, ie apparently random change of AILS with wavelength (notably A and AB bands). This is thought to be due to derivation of `noisy' ILS parameters as part of the Level 1 calibration of orbit 504.
Expect stable L1B algorithm from mid-July

Oxford Retrievals (VP) [Prev] [Next]

Attempting to retrieve profiles from orbit 504 data

Switch the Lv2 Pre Processor to assign microwindows to sweeps rather than reported altitudes helped
pT from profiles 22/23 of orbit 504 still noisy and underestimate temperature compared to ESA retrievals.
Some sensitivity to ILS, ie retrievals attempted with `actual' AILS better than retrievals attempted with `ideal' AILS.

L2 Data (JJR) [Prev] [Next]

Leicester and Oxford have both received 3 CDs from Kiruna labelled as containing Level 2 data. However, Reinhold Spang reports that these profiles are `empty' and the CDs were sent out in error.

Occupation Matrices (CP) [Prev] [Next]

Occupation matrix required for each profile in order to estimate the systematic errors (using MWMAKE) for data assimilation.

ESA L2 format does not give label of OM for each profile so writing IDL code to match up OM data in L2 files with list of supplied OMs is rather complicated
Will also be used to assign OM to each residual for REC analysis
Note that pT retrieval in 504 only uses non-nominal OM for 2/39 cases (res#3, profile#9 uses OM_PT__015, res#33, profile#53 uses OM_PT__115) Other cases are presumably changes in nominal OM with latitude (~12) or because one of the other species retrievals changes OM.
