Oxford MIPAS meeting#107
28 November 06

Present

Instrument Status [Prev] [Next]
According to the Envisat Web-Site, an "unexpected and urgent maintenance activity on one of the Envisat on-board memory requires a switch-off of the complete payload that will entail instrument unavailability for a period of about 2 days" from 28-30 Nov.
Apart from this, MIPAS itself continues in a long sequence of nominal mode observations 2 orbits on followed by 3 orbits off (intended to be tested as an input for ECMWF data assimilation).

RR27 Retrieval (AD) [Prev] [Next]
ESA have given up attempting to generate any L2 products from the reduced-resolution data in time for the upcoming ACVE-3 meeting and, instead, there will be a separate validation meeting dedicated to these products the day before the next QWG, ie 13 Feb 2007 at ESRIN.

Precision Validation (CP) [Prev] [Next]
Using comparisons of pairs of MIPAS retrievals at locations where orbits intersect to see how the observed standard deviation compares with the predicted variability from the retrieval covariance.

ACE NO2 Comparisons (CP) [Prev] [Next]
Now comparing MIPAS NO2 with ACE measurements (for MIPAS NO2 validation paper)

TES Radiance Comparisons (CW) [Prev] [Next]
Continuing with comparison of MIPAS and TES limb radiance spectra from Jan 28 2005 using regions where the MIPAS bands and TES filters overlap

CO Retrievals (JW) [Prev] [Next]
Continuing with a joint retrieval of CO and vibrational temperature using RFM being used in non-LTE mode as a forward model within IDL retrieval program

Cloud Parameters (JH) [Prev] [Next]
Attempting to retrieve Cloud Top Height, Cloud Extinction and/or cloud top temperature using a pair of adjacent sweeps (the cloud top being in the FOV of the upper sweep) and a single microwindow 960-961cm-1 (most transparent region of MIPAS spectrum)

Mesospheric Spectra (LMV) [Prev] [Next]
Analysing contents of MIPAS mesospheric spectra (52, 60 and 68km nominal altitudes). Having masked out the spectral points influenced by atmospheric lines, the resulting spectra can be used to examine the noise and radiometric offset.
