Oxford MIPAS meeting#121
03 Jul 07

Present

Instrument Status [Prev] [Next]
Special mid-summer observations: about to start 2 days of "NLC Mode" observations, followed by NOM mode, then 2 more days of NLC mode (14-16 Jul).

L1B Data (JH) [Prev] [Next]
L1B coverage maps updated to Jun 18th
Data available for 23-28th May but not yet plotted
Gap from May 29th - Jun 5th due to decontamination.

BEAT L2 software (AD) [Prev]
BEATL2_INGEST extracts ESA L2 data on tangent point surfaces.
However, for many uses it is convenient to interpolate these data to particular pressure or potential temperature surfaces
l2surf.pro (IDL procedure) does this, while maintaining the same BEAT data structure.
Note that this is a simple interpolation of everything in the L2 profile, including the error SD values - not a formal statistical interpolation (which, in any case, would require the full covariance matrix which is not included within the BEATL2 structure)

NOy (JW) [Prev] [Next]
Looking at ESA L2 HNO3 v (night) NO2 - expect to see linear anticorrelation as a function of time of year (and solar illumination).
Next: try plotting as a function of equivalent latitude instead of simple zonal average to see if correlation is better maintained through distorted winter polar vortex conditions.

Cloud Detection (JH) [Prev] [Next]
Presentations from last week's kick-off meeting for the ESA MIPAS Cloud Study

Mesospheric Retrievals (LMV) [Prev] [Next]
Trying a linear least-squares fit retrieval for pT, O3 and H2O using entire MIPAS bands (screening out lines affected by non-LTE effects and contaminant gases).

MIPAS/TES Retrievals (CW) [Prev] [Next]
Aim is to combine MIPAS limb measurements of stratospheric O3 with TES nadir-viewing measurements to obtain more information on tropospheric O3 profile (basically how TES was supposed to work before their problems with limb-views)

Oxford L2 Processing (AD) [Prev] [Next]
Running MORSE retrieval to process L1B data for selected days throughout the full and reduced resolution dataset.
pT, H2O, O3, HNO3, CH4, N2O, NO2, CFC-11, CFC-12, ClONO2, N2O5 and CO (LTE assumption).

HIRDLS (CW/LMV) [Prev]
HIRDLS Science Team meeting in Oxford 27-29 June
