Automated DDX transfer to BADC should now be under way - should contain L1B and L2 data, but haven't checked

L1 Calibration [Prev] [Next]

Official status of MIPAS L1 Calibration to be reported at Envisat Calibration Review on 12 Sep 02.

CP in communication with Alastair Burgess (ESTEC) about whether new ILS calibration microwindows in A and C bands give improved results (improved results being defined as a systematic change of ILS shape with wavenumber across the entire MIPAS response) [Next]
ESTEC will reprocess orbit 2083 with new microwindows.
Plot from Herb Nett shows that NESR is overestimated by around 50% in band A due to including offset in imaginary spectrum when taking RMS values

AMIL2DA [Prev] [Next]

Thomas von Clarmann wanted ideas for how to close blind test retrievals. Our suggestion was for all groups to re-retrieve using known profiles of other species in which case discrepancy between result and truth (applying averaging kernel) should be down to instrument noise and `physics' errors such as CO2 line mixing and non-LTE.

Covariance Matrices [Prev]

(CP) Constructing total covariance matrix for each profile in an orbit by combining random and pT error propagation matrices with MWMAKE error covariances for the remaining systematic terms

Orbit 504 successfully processed but problems encountered reading 2081-3 (bugs in reading L2 format - see above)

RAL Microwindow selection [Prev]

(MP) Starting to look at selection of microwindows for MIPAS "special modes", particularly S2 (UTLS) and S6 (high along-track resln)

L1B format [Prev] [Next]

(JR & RS) Trying to extract line-of-sight geometry from L1B data, however L1B format seems to be lacking essential pointing information, ie elevation and azimuth in absolute coordinates. Suggest contacting Herb Nett about having these included in future update of L1B format.

Cloud Detection [Prev] [Next]

(JJR) Report on early results with MIPAS data - variety of clouds detected. Preparing a paper for the Calibration Review meeting.

REC Analysis [Prev] [Next]

(AD) Preliminary REC analysis performed for ESTEC/ESA retrievals.

Results presentated at Cal/Val CM7 on 29 Aug [Viewgraphs]

6th European Symposium on Stratospheric Ozone (Gothenburg, 2-6 Sep 02)

Not much on ENVISAT data, but note that SMR/ODIN is being used to retrieve profiles of CO and isotopic ratios HDO and CH3D.
