REC analysis also shows a spectral shift varying from
-0.001cm-1 to +0.001cm-1 from 68 to 12 km tangent
altitude.
- IFAC have processed 2081 down to 6 km to investigate trend at
lower altitudes, REC analysis shows that
9 km (x symbols) continues the trend but 6 km often reverses it
(+ symbols) NB they have also removed the trend with wavenumber
- One explanation might be variation in illumnation of FOV with tangent
height due to differing vertical radiance gradients.
Results are inconclusive (and should be plotted
differently).
Gain Oscillation (VP)

OPTIMO-ORM temperature differences showed
chequerboard pattern, due to (visible)
vertical oscillations in the OPTIMO retrieval rather than the ORM.
- Since OPTIMO has no `memory' of the previously retrieved profile,
oscillations are thought due to some artifact in the Level 1 spectra.
- Plot of the average difference
(solid lines) between pairs of
adjacent spectra
for the PT__0004 microwindow should look like noise, which they
do for 18 and 24km, but for 21 and 27km the difference has a similar
shape to the average radiance (dotted line, scaled to fit).
To be investigated further.
