Today the operations of MIPAS have been suspended, in view of the observation of three IDU anomalies in one day (22/08). ESA & ASTRIUM will investigate the reduced-resolution level 0 data for further failure analysis. In addition, ESA & ASTRIUM will complete the feasibility investigation for a test with single-slide operation (the so-called backup mode, which is not yet qualified at platform level). I will keep you posted!Update, 24th Aug 2004
On 22 August, ESA has interrupted the operations of the MIPAS instrument in its new reduced-resolution mode. During the previous days, the interferometer has shown similar type and frequency of anomalies as in full-resolution mode. ESA and industry proceed with anomaly analysis of the data that have become available in reduced-resolution mode. In parallell, a feasibility study is already underway to assess the possibility of performing a test in the so called back-up mode. In this mode, only one of the two interferometer slides is operated. You will be provided with further updates in the course of the investigations.
