Using MIPAS D-band microwindows to retrieve OCS
- [Histogram plots]
of OCS binned by altitude/lat/lon/season seem to show a secondary
peak at low altitude over Africa and Indonesia, possibly indicative of
biomass burning (but may also be
related to cloud-contamination)
- Unreasonable high antarctic winter OCS values appear not to be related
to PSC contamination (ie no correlation with Cloud Index) but do seem
to be related to
using latitude-varying initial guess data - not yet established which field
is causing the problem.
Data Assimilation (CP)

DARC study to investigate method of removing a priori influence
on retrieved O3 profiles by assimilating information rather than profiles.
- DARC require detailed averaging kernels for every O3 OFL profile, so
will generate these using the ORM for a few days to see if this makes any
significant difference to the assimilation.
- A better test might be to compare assimilations of MORSE profiles
(ie optimal estimation, therefore with a more explicit a priori
component) and their information, but MIPAS OFL data currently available.
