Currently (15-18 Aug) operating in UTLS-1 mode, then off for four days, followed by 3 more days of UTLS-1 22-25 Aug.

We have noticed that the ftp site described in MIPAS_ValPaperInfo_050801.pdf contains significantly more data in the various day subdirectories than we have acquired at Oxford via our automated ftp connection to the top level of that site. Eg for 01JAN04 we only had profiles from 9 orbits whereas all 14 are in the ftp site.
We are currently downloading all the data and will then sort it into various versions (v4.62, v4.61, etc). Unfortunately there is nothing in the filenames themselves which tells you which version the data is - you have to read the file headers to find out.

HiRDLS Comparisons (CW) [Prev] [Next]

Comparing integrated MIPAS and HiRDLS Radiances for 28th January 2005 in order to validate HiRDLS radiometric calibration.

Plot of ratio HiRDLS/MIPAS and difference HiRDLS-MIPAS shows no consistent behaviour with altitude, suggesting not a simple gain or offset error in the HiRDLS radiances
Next step is to see if the large scatter in HiRDLS radiances is related to day/night differences (at the satellite rather than the tangent point)
More recent MIPAS L1B data has been requested in order to extend the HiRLDS validation but no response from ESA yet

OCS (AB) [Prev]

Constructing OCS climatology from MIPAS measurements.

[Comparison] with results of a model from Claudia Timmreck (Hamburg). MIPAS on left. Top is Dec02, then Mar03, Jun03, Sep03.
Seems to be good agreement in the annual mean distribution but not obvious that the superimposed seasonal cycles are at all similar (need to subtract annual mean from each plot to find out).
Results from a new version of the model are expected soon.

O3 (CP)

Work in progress:

Running MORSE (optimal estimation) O3 retrievals so that DARC can investigate technique of a priori removal in data assimilation. [Prev]
Investigating best retrieval set-up for O3 isotope retrievals [Prev] [Next]
Waiting for new version of ODIN data processing for ODIN-MIPAS comparison as part of O3 validation. [Prev]
Trying to obtain properly calibrated TES limb spectra from a period when MIPAS was also operating in order to compare limb retrievals [Prev]

Aura Science Team Meeting [Next]

There will be an Aura Science Team meeting in The Hague, the Netherlands, from Nov8-10 2005, to which members of ACE, GOME, and ENVISAT Science Teams are invited. The topics will include scientific results from tropospheric and stratospheric composition measurements, comparisons between various instruments, and the results from validation activities.
