Should now be back in operation after ~3 week switch-off to allow recovery from increasing Interferometer Drive Unit (IDU) errors. About to go into 'campaign mode' - 5 orbits/day covering balloon campaign in S. France.

L1 Data [Prev] [Next]

[BADC Archive of reprocessed L1B Data]

More L1B data from the high-resolution operation has recently been distributed & archived at the BADC
At the recent QWG meeting it was stated that routine processing of L1B data for the reduced resolution is now expected towards the end of the year, but if a particular day were required for Aura validation this could be produced at ESRIN using the prototype processor.

L2 OFL Data (CP) [Prev] [Next]

Oxford local directories have now been reorganised to sort all L2 OFL data by version number as well as date. Plots will eventually be modified to show this.
Reprocessed v4.62 data continues to arrive via automatic ftp, most recently on 23Sep05.

HiRDLS Comparisons (CW) [Prev] [Next]

Comparing HiRDLS retrievals with locally-retrieved MIPAS profiles for 28th January 2005 and 1st March 2005 (only available MIPAS data), assuming MIPAS more likely to be accurate

Temperature: reasonable agreement, HIRDLS a bit high above stratopause
O3: reasonable agreement above 100mb surface
H2O: HIRDLS about a factor 2 too high
CH4: HIRDLS much too high
N2O: reasonable agreement above 100mb surface

There are currently no HIRDLS retrievals available for HNO3 and NO2.

Now extending list of MIPAS products to include N2O5 and ClONO2.

Aura Science Team Meeting [Prev] [Next]

The Hague, the Netherlands, from Nov8-10 2005, to which members of ACE, GOME, and ENVISAT Science Teams are invited.

SO2 (AB) [Prev]

Contacted by Debra Weisenstein (AER) regarding modelling stratospheric SO2 concentrations. However, results from MIPAS may not be accurate enough to be useful - large discrepancies according to which averaging method is used.

TES (CP) [Prev] [Next]

The TES team have now supplied limb-viewing spectra for Jan 28th 2005.

Plan to select microwindows for joint pT+H2O+O3 retrieval and compare results with MIPAS.

Note that TES spectral coverage is sufficiently different from MIPAS that unfortunately we cannot use the same microwindows for both, even when TES is reduced to 0.0625cm^-1 resolution.

Aircraft Emission Mode (AD) [Prev] [Next]

MIPAS AE mode measurements taken on 5/6 May 2005.

Previously noted that there are problems with altitude registration

2km discrepancy between engineering altitudes and planned observations has been identified as a mission-planning problem
No explanation yet for apparent 5km discrepancy between engineering and "retrieved" pointing, although at the recent QWG meeting Tilman Steck (IMK) presented results indicating a absolute pointing error of around 2km in the "roll" axis.

Retrievals have now been attempted using 'ad-hoc' microwindows for NO2 and N2O5

The depletion in day-time concentrations (blue,green curves) is the expected behaviour in the mid-stratosphere

There is some evidence of enhancements at lower altitudes in some of the profiles although these may equally well have other explanations such as cloud-contamination.

Data Assimilation [Prev]

Spectroscopic Data [Prev] [Next]

Version 3.2 of the MIPAS spectroscopic database has now been released.

Future deliveries of LUTs will use this data.
