N2O5 is retrieved with fairly poor precision using the standard
MIPAS microwindow approach, thought to be due to retrieving both
continuum and N2O5 in each microwindow. Investigating the following error
analyses:
Retrieve only N2O5
Retrieve N2O5 plus single continuum and offset across whole band
Retrieve N2O5 plus independent continuum and offset in each 3cm-1
microwindow (simulating 'operational' approach).
Conclusion is that significantly improved precision is obtainable for N2O5
if a single continuum profile is fitted across all microwindows.
Local retrieval code MORSE will have to be adapted to be able to perform this.
