Oxford MIPAS meeting#87
06 Dec 05

Present

Instrument Status [Prev] [Next]
The self-healing resulting from lower workload appears less effective. The latest mission planning in light of this is below.

Science Team Meeting, IMK (AD) [Prev] [Next]
Looked at many instrumental and scientific issues.

Validation Team Meeting, IMK (CP,VP) [Prev]
Looked at validation issues.

L2 Data (AB,CP) [Prev] [Next]
Updated L2 version and coverage maps [Link]. Now look at OFFLINE data.
Reported that 24Sep02 220750 (v4.62) temperature profile is 3K worse than the previous processor version(v4.61).

L1 Data [Prev] [Next]
9DEC05 - Plans to activate processor v4.65. This will create L1B reduced resolution data operationally.

HiRDLS Comparisons (CW) [Prev] [Next]
Running the RFM to simulate the HIRDLS channels, using a retrieved mipas profile. (covers regions of the spectrum not observed by MIPAS).
Looking at Jan 2005 MIPAS nitric acid measurements, for validation.

N2O5 (JW) [Prev] [Next]
The single continuum approach is an improvement. Still after quantitative comparisons.

TES (CW) [Prev] [Next]
Adding the retrieval of pressure to nadir measurements.

Anomalous VMRs [topic was D Band Cloud, Prev] [Next](JH)
Some profiles show very low (1e-10) water or ozone values. These are put in when the retrieval oscillates and goes negative. The remainder of the profile should be usable. These values do not correlate with geolocation. No correlation with D and not A band cloud detection (PSCs). No diurnal correlation. Will look at L2 quality flag and match L2 to L1B points.

2RR Microwindows (ie 0.0625cm-1 resln) (AD) [Prev] [Next]
Re-selecting MWs after Jacobian bug.

CO Retrievals (JW) [Prev] [Next]
Looking at the averaging kernels. Comparing the differing a priori conditions (value, uncertainty).
Some evidence of observing CO descent at the winter pole.

SF6 Retrievals (AB) [Prev] [Next]
Submitted paper to GRL for review on SF6 Zonal means / seasonal variability.
