04 Apr 06

Present

Instrument Status [Prev][Next]
The ESA web-page says that MIPAS resumed operations on 16th March. Nothing since then.
February monthly report is here.. [Prev] [Next]

L1 Data [Prev][Next]
FTP site is back up (ftp-ops.de.envisat.esa.int), after another short outage.
BADC seems to be mirroring the RR directories OK.
L1B RR coverage maps may be found here.

HiRDLS Comparisons (CW, AB, CP) [Prev][Next]
(CW) Investigating height corrections (absolute pointing) for HiRDLS.
(AB) Managed to open HIRRAD_v5.6.1-2.8.1-4.0.6-aIrix-c1_2006d033.he5 and looking at radiances therein.
(CP) Ditto, but for L2, with success downloading and opening a number of files from [Sept-Oct] 2005. Concentrating on 24 Sep 05. The aim is to look at HiRDLS ozone values for assimilation intercoparisons.

TES/MIPAS/ODIN/ACE Comparisons (CP) [Prev] [Next]
DARC intercomparisons paper writing is in progress.

Cloud Parameter Retrievals (JH) [Prev][Next]
Chasing bugs.
Managed to improve upon the previous result and now obtain a single clout top height for most files.
Investigating the number of pencil beams required to successfully simulate the view volume and gain consistent results.
Looking at the influence of removing the gas contributions from the forward model, leaving a fast Planck-type calculation for the thick regions (to speed calculations).
Investigating the D band, too.

NOx (JW) [Prev] [Next]
Rate constant problems mainly due to a bug in the code. Still not ideal, however.
Looking at selecting more MWs to increase confidence in N2O5 values.
Problems calculating polar winter stratospheric sunset times due to the low horizon angle.

CFC (F11,F12) Retrievals & Trends (AB) [Prev] [Next]
Working on pT + operational species from RR data (UTLS1 mode, Feb06) prior to retrieving CFCs.

L2 validation (AB/AD) [Prev][Next]
Investigating possible OM assignment bug in webpage creation

PT Error propagation (CP) [Next]
Investigating (with Sven Bartha : Astrium) the nature of the PT error propagation matrices in the L2 product as there seem to be some inconsistencies.
