Oxford MIPAS meeting#97
06 June 06

Present

Instrument Status [Prev] [Next]
The instrument is currently performing some nominal UTLS mode measurements. Upper and Middle atmosphere modes are planned for the forthcoming solstice.
April monthly report is here. [Prev] [Next]

L1 Data [Prev] [Next]
L1B RR coverage maps may be found here. They have been updated since the previous meeting. Text files containing the lat/lon/time are available on the webpage, too.

HiRDLS Comparisons (CW, AB, CP, AD) [Prev] [Next]
(AW) There is a new version of the 28 Jan 05 data that has been reprocessed. It should be available on SIPS.
(AB) Completed L1 and L2 comparison routines.
(CW) Looking a MIPAS/ HIRDLS height comaprisons. The agreement is reasonable, but there are some significant discrepancies that are being investigated.

CF4 retrievals (CP) [Prev] [Next]
Applied a Kalman filter within a lat/lon grid box and also implimented a triangular smoothing function. This has reduced the variability observed.
Using new MWs that have been selected for a single continuum retrieval (in a similar manner to the new N2O5 MWs)

2RR Microwindows (ie 0.0625cm-1 resln) (AD) [Prev] [Next]
Investigating new 'cloud' MWs for JH.
Completed a new CF4 MW selection.

Cloud Parameter Retrievals (JH) [Prev] [Next]
Comparing cloud top height results for A band and B band windows. they agree to within 1km.
Investigating a more refined method.

NOx (JW) [Prev] [Next]
Used the new N2O5 MWs.
Grouping the results by calculated rate constant as a function of time shows a dependance on time since sunset (i.e. incorrect, as k should be constant). There is an underlying overestimate when there are very low values of N2O5. This is probably from the A Priori contribution. Experimenting with increasing the A Priori uncertainty to improve this.

L2 validation (AB/AD) [Prev]
(AB) All L2 Webpages have been updated.
Shown Anu how to use the various tools, especially for downloading L2 files.
