Introduction

This page is an overview of the work performed in the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics Sub-Department (University of Oxford) on the retrieval ofvolcanic emission from satellite.

This work is part of NCEO project - The Dynamic Earth and Geohazard (NERC). That is a program of observation of earthquakes and volcanic processes. In particular we are using SEVIRI data for the ash retrieval (Optical Depth -AOD and effective radius - Reff ). We are going to use the MetOp data, GOME-2 and IASI to retrieve SO₂ from volcanic eruption, using both the UV and TIR SO₂ spectral region.

MetOp data are available from March 2007.
Seviri data are available from Feb 2004.
