CEMS Processing (BL) [Next]

Processing GOME data, including NRT data. Using LOTUS and CEMS-SC1. Script set up to process individual orbit given just orbit# and various keywords which get passed to IDL, using 'IDL -rt = [name of .sav file]'. Bash seems OK, but some problems with C shell.

CH4 Retrievals (DK) [Next]

Diane just started work at RAL, previously at Leicester working on CH4 retrievals from SCIAMACHY.

RFM (AD) [Prev] [Next]

RFM v4.33 now released, although a few minor coding improvements still in progress. Main improvement is use of LUTs. Aim is now to generate a definitive set of RFM LUTs for IASI modelling based on the RTTOV vertical grid.

RAL EUMETSAT studies (RS) [Prev] [Next]

Finishing off EUMETSAT studies, including OEM retrieval of T and H2O. Focus on 17 Apr, 17 Jul and 17 Oct 2013. Add emissivity and simplified cloud model to OEM. Report should be finished in next few weeks. Also finishing off EUMETSAT CH4 study.

EUMETSAT V6 L2 data is significantly improved on older versions.

Looked at AKs for CH4: some spurious structure caused by RTTOV weighting functions.

Oxford T Retrieval (TV) [Next]

Working on temperature retrieval from IASI CO2 bands. Problems encountered not including apodisation correctly in Sy matrix. Removing Q-branches also helps (with RFM). Now using LUTs. Next look at retrieving T in the presence of cloud. Ideas on how to test product?

Ash Retrieval (LV) [Next]

IASI ash retrieval: optical depth, effective radius, plume height and surface temperature. Uses separate error covariance matrices built statistically from clear and cloudy ash-free scenes. Current procedure is to attempt ash retrieval first with clear covariance, then with cloudy covariance. Problem with results in cloudy scenes - might be better to attempt some basic fit of cloud effects rather than just rely on covariance?

IASI NRT web-site (CH) [Prev] [Next]

Writing web-site for IASI NRT processing. Currently just SO2 flags, aim to be operational before the end of February. Now getting assistance from Mark. Problem with security issues. Noted that there exists a set of CF-compliant labels for netCDF file contents.

SO2 Retrievals (EC) [Prev] [Next]

IASI SO2, off-line data. Just started to get linear retrievals running at CEDA, but often (~20% runs) crashes - could be an issue with IDL licences?
