Ongoing recoding in Fortran 90/95, and adapting to nadir (for IASI).

SO2 Linear Retrievals (EC) [Prev] [Next]

Analysing 2007-2013 dataset to identify degassing volcanoes. Detection based on higher SO2 concentration within 50km radius of volcanos compared to 50-200km. Might be better to consider prevailing wind direction.

Plan on archiving SO2 linear retrievals at CEDA but current problems with validating netCDF format.

SO2 Linear Retrievals (CH) [Prev] [Next]

Looking at Calbuco eruption where SO2 seems to have ended up caught in an anticyclone in the S.Atlantic, providing an opportunity to analyse time-dependence of SO2 concentration. Noted some change in MODIS local cloud properties but since SO2 at much higher level than clouds probably a retrieval artefact caused by SO2 (or H2SO4 aerosol).

OCS/CO Linear Retrievals (TV) [Prev] [Next]

(Linear retrieval based on retrieving multiple species using just noise covariance, unlike SO2 linear retrieval which retrieves single species using statistical covariance)

Analysed full year (2014) of IASI data. OCS maxima over the oceans in areas of upwelling, and some peaks over land. Using these for seasonal analyses. Comparison with 13 NOAA flask sites. Aug 2015 v 2014 shows potential El Nino signal.

T,H2O,O3 Retrievals (JW) [Prev] [Next]

Incorporated IASI-AMSU T,H2O,O3 retrieval into CEMS processing using climatological (rather than ECMWF) a priori. Producing partial O3 columns for comparison with MACC. Also retrieving surface emissivity helps over deserts.
