• First appearance of Merton and Magdalen Hall (absorbed, in 1874, into Hertford College, and distinct from Magdalen College, which does not appear in Eights until 1846)
• Christ Church didn't race on day 4 so rejoined at bottom of racing crews for day 5, but didn't race on day 6.
• Worcester raced on 1st day and last day only, placed at bottom of racing on last day (but ahead of Queen's and Jesus who had not yet raced).
• Queen's and Jesus raced on the last day only
• Notes from Sherwood
  • In spite of the rain the racing came off at the usual time.
  • The Brasenose, however, was the only boat that ventured down to Sandford; the others stayed at Iffley
• From the main text of Sherwood (p14)

  In 1838 we find the following note in Bell's Life: 'The Exeter, in consequence of remaining head of the river for three nights, is off until the last night, unless Merton should chance to bump Balliol, in which case they are bound by the laws of racing to put on again and give Merton a chance of getting to the head of the river'
