6 days: Thu 27 May, Wed 2, Fri 4, Mon 7, Wed 9 and Fri 11 June 1841
Despite the new rule (below) which meant that crews 'taking off' were
still assigned a nominal position each day, I've followed Sherwood's chart in showing which
crews were assigned a finish position and which weren't.
Wadham listed as starting 3rd,
but appear not to have raced on the first day. They lost two places, despite
the new rules, presumably because Trinity bumped Exeter so as to replace them
below Exeter.
St John's only raced up to the 4th day but,
under the new rule, only lost
one place for each of the last two days' absence
University claimed a bump on
Brasenose, whose bows were past the post.
As the rules did not specify anything on the subject the bump was not allowed,
but the present rule was made.
Fourth night: 'Our regular crew took off, and their place was supplied
by Coleridge
and a Torpid crew, but with no better success
