  • 'Mr. R. I. Salmon came up this year [1855?] to row for Exeter, and thus has rowed Exeter from bottom to top of the river, and kept her there, without having submitted to a bump in his boating career at Oxford' (Exeter book).
  • Second night: Lincoln came down too late for the start

  1858. This was the first time the Eights were rowed on consecutive nights. The number of bumps was very small, so complaints were made that the crews had no time to practise and improve during the races.

• It is notable that the Exeter head crew had only one change from the previous year.
