Rowing at Oxford
The University Eight-oared Bumping Boat Races were continued yesterday in splendid weather, when thousands of spectators assembled on the river and banks of the Isis to witness both divisions race. The Second Division left Iffley in the following order: [start order] St. Catherine's, after breaking a slide in the Gut, overtook University at the new boat-house. Worcester, after a good race along the Willows, were run into by Christ's Church [sic]. The others maintained their positions. The First Division was despatched as follows: [start order]. Exeter, rowing within themselves, finished well in front of Magdalen, but the latter and Brasenose had a very hard race, Brasenose claiming a bump which was disputed, and will be decided within this day (Tuesday) [apparently disallowed]. Corpus went well up to the Willows, but after fell back to their place. Keble bumped New at the Red Post, and Trinity overtook St. John's at the first willow.
