The summer eight-oar races were continued yesterday afternoon in beautiful weather and in the presence of a large number of spectators. In the second division Merton bumped Exeter at the Gut, and Balliol caught Oriel near the green barge. Worcester got very close to Lincoln, and University were within a few feet of Wadham, there being a most exciting race with all four crews. There were also two bumps in the first division, Christ Church displacing Keble at the Gut, and St. John's overhauling Hertford in Iffley Reach.
The summer races came to an end last evening. The attendance was one of the largest on record. Magdalen left off head of the river rowing up at a very easy stroke. After a desperate race New succumbed to Brasenose opposite the latter's barge. Christ Church were well away from Corpus, and after an exciting struggle, the latter fell to St. John's 30 yards off the winning post. Hertford and Trinity followed a long way apart, Keble were secured by Queen's in Iffley Reach, and Merton brought up the rear. In the second divisions, Balliol made amends for their disappointing display on Tuesday, and caught Pembroke at the Hertford barge, while St Catherine's lowered the colours of Exeter near the weir bridge. Wadham had a hard struggle with Oriel, but were defeated by three-quarters of a length.
