Points System

28OCT23 After 2023 Eights

It works as follows

• Points are allocated for each of the four events: Men's/Women's Torpids/Eights and added together for the College's total
• One point is allocated for the boat finishing at the bottom of each event
• N points are allocated for the boat finishing head of each event, where N is the number of crews in the event: eg varying from 93 for Men's Eights to 63 for Women's Torpids (i.e, the 'bigger' the event, the more points are allocated for the Headship).
• For intermediate positions a simple linear scale (1, 2, ... N) wouldn't work since a College would gain as many points for a bump at the bottom of the river as a bump for the Headship. Instead there's an exponential scale where the number of points for finishing position i is calculated as
  Points = N^(N-i)/(N-1)

The tables below show total points for each College and subtotals for each event (MT = Men's Torpids, etc), all rounded to nearest integer for this year and last year.
