In Division I, Magdalen I, the head boat, came through in fine style, St. John's, the next in order, being caught by Christ Church leaving the Gut. Trinity were quite outpaced by New College, and Brasenose were bumped by Christ Church 2 at the Long Bridges.

Competitors in the Torpids at Oxford yesterday had some rough water and a high wind to contend with. Not a single bump was recorded amongst the First Division boats, which is believed to be withough precedent so far as the second day's racing is concerned. Christ Church gave Magdalen a good race for the headship, without really getting within striking distance. In the Second Division three bumps were recorded. Corpus retained the headship of the division, but University caught Pembroke, and look like getting into the First Division. Worcester caught St. John's II at the Cherwell, and Merton beat Queen's after a good race.
In Division 3 Balliol [II], who had come down from Division 2 on the previous day, succumbed to Wadham at the Gut. Rain, snow, and wind combined to render the task of the competitors in the Oxford torpids very unpleasant on Saturday. There was some interesting racing, although bumps were few. In the third division Wadham, Balliol, Hertford, Jesus, Lincoln, and St. Catherine's all finished in their starting order, the only bump in the division being that which Keble made at the expense of St. Edmund Hall at the Lady Bridges [sic]. In the second division University deprived Corpus of the headship at the Willows, and Worcester overtook Pembroke at the Green Bank. St. John's and Oriel rowed up, the only other change being that Keble overtook Exeter at the Brasenose barge. There was no change in the headship of the first division, nor does it appear likely that there will be. The first seven boats — Magdalen, Christ Church, St. John's, Balliol, Magdalen, New, and Trinity — rowed up. Christ Church II made a bump at the expense of New College II, and University overtook Brasenose.

With the river swollen as the result of recent rains and a strong south-westerly wind blowing, competitors in the torpid races yesterday found their tasks far from light. In the third division the head boat, Wadham, had an easy row over, and Balliol escaped Hertford, who were caught by Jesus after a hard race. Keble II bumped St. Catherine's at the Red Post; whilst St. Edmund's Hall fell to Brasenose II at Saunder's Bridge. In the second division the first boat, Brasenose, held their own without much difficulty, but Worcester caught Corpus after a splendid struggle. St. John's II also put up a fine race before falling to Oriel, but wide gaps separated the remaining boats.
The head of the river boat, Magdalen, gave their supporters a fright in Division I, for, although they held Christ Church for some time, the latter came with a rush at the finish, and only three yards separated the boats as they passed the post. St. John's were no match for Balliol, who caught them coming out of the Gut. Christ Church II defeated Trinity at the same place, and New College II were bumped by University at the Free Ferry. In spring-like weather the torpids were continued at Oxford yesterday before a large attendance. The change from rough conditions to calm apparently suited the Christ Church crew, for they managed to wrest the headship of the river from Magdalen. As usual, the Third Division boats started first, Wadham Balliol, and Jesus keeping their positions; but Lincoln fell to Keble 2 at the New Cut. St. Edmund's Hall proved no match for Trinity 2, who caught them before reaching the Gut.Brasenose lost premier place in Division 2, falling to Worcester at the Willows, and although they struggled hard Pembroke were bumped by Oriel before reaching the Cherwell. Keble went up at the expense of St. John's, who were overtaken at the Red Post; but the others finished in their starting order.
As already stated, Christ Church beat Magdalen in the First Division. The latter gained at the outset, but were rowed down, amidst great excitement, at the Christ Church barge, after a great race. Balliol finished well ahead of St. John's, who only just escpaped Magdalen 2. University continued their successful career at the expense of Trinity, whilst Worcester scored their second success of the afternoon by bumping New College 2 at the Worcester barge. Worcester, it may be remarked, have never been so high for twenty-four years [actually since 1881]

The names and weights of the Christ Church crew are as follows :— [listed below].
In beautiful weather the Torpid races at Oxford concluded yesterday. After deposing Magdalen the previous day, Christ Church were fully expected to finish at the head of the river, and they realised anticipations, rowing up several lengths ahead. Christ Church were a much heavier crew than Magdalen, and doubtless the rise in the river on Monday and the strong stream running had a bearing upon their victory. University had a good time, making seven bumps during the six afternoons. The other outstanding performance was that of Worcester, who made six bumps, and are now firmly established in the First Division.Brasenose, after falling into the Second Division, got back into the First yesterday, thanks to one of the New College men breaking an oar. In the Third Division Wadham retained the lead, Jesus bumped Balliol 2, and St. Catherine's caught Lincoln. In Division 2 Brasenose has been referred to; Keble caught Pembroke, and Queen's, who had an untrained man at 7, fell victims to Wadham. The two head boats in Division 1 have been alluded to. Magdalen 2 went up a place at the expense of St. John's, University caught Christ Church 2 at the Willows, and Worcester overtook Trinity coming out of the Gut.
