Particles in the upper Troposphere and lower Stratosphere and their role in the climate system (PARTS)

Welcome to the University of Oxford AOPP page of PARTS

This is a project which will be funded in the European Research Framework 5 of the European Commission

PARTS is part of the OCLI cluster

The University of Oxford's role in PARTS

The role of the Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics (AOPP) subgroup of the University of Oxford physics department is as following:
  • to act as lead contractor to WP2, being responsible for the organisation of the scientific work;
  • to use measurements of WP2 along with existing refractive indices data to construct an algorithm to determine aerosol particle size from SAGE II data. SAGE II estimates of particle properties will be combined with those from the ATSR/2 andUARS instruments to produce a 20+ year dataset of aerosol properties in the UT/LS;
  • to provide satellite observations and to use them together with the Technische Universität München (TUMUC) to study the properties of aerosols in forest fire plumes in the UT/LS (WP3).
